When working with Chinese Colleagues it might seem like an impossible task to navigate their customs - however this shouldn't discourage your overall experience. The key thing here, which brings us all together as expats is understanding how they react under certain situations and that may be a fact worth sharing for those colleagues who have found themselves in the same shoes but with different cultural nuances between Chinese office workers from other countries.

The first point I bring up to my fellow readers - regarding their concerns about constructive criticism given by them, can indeed make an expat worker like myself feel uneasy. **1** The notion of “saving face” is a concept you will constantly come across in this line duty and it's what makes understanding your colleagues so hard sometimes for those who aren't used to giving or receiving feedback that doesn’t save one another from their higher-ups.

For example, if I were the expat worker here - then my job would require me offering constructive advice as well behind closed doors where possible. **2** It is better this way since they get an opportunity at having what we believe are not just positive results but also a chance to save face and be comfortable with their performance being discussed – which makes it hard for them if all of the colleagues don’t receive any feedback from each other or even in front.

In line duty, expats should probably take short breaks on social media - however this isn't something you need not fear as long they still meet deadlines. **3** There’s nothing wrong with taking a break – and we have to accept that maybe our Chinese colleagues simply having an easy going approach is how office cultural differences between the two countries play out in reality.

It might seem like being too influenced by such higher-up chains of command - but honestly, this isn't something you need not fear if it’s about understanding what expats say regarding their experiences with these micromanaged superiors or other line duties. **4** If I had
